Arguments and Fallings Out

Occasionally I offend people
Without intending to upset
Sometimes strangers
Occasionally acquaintances:
Various people I have met.

Sometimes there’s a degree of alcohol involved:
The pub is a social meeting place.
I express an opinion
Or am out of turn
Then want to hide my face.

Sometimes I have an opinion
And am too certain I am right
A disagreement
Becomes an argument:
Then I toss and turn at night.

Rubbing people up the wrong way
Is a knack
I seem to possess.
I think some people are tolerant
Whilst others’ patience I do test.

And afterwards I do think:
On eggshells I now tread
I try to apologise there and then.
And think afterwards
Of things said and done

Or of things not said and not done.
