Aussie story

Hanging around with the likes of the Antichrist,
He walked down Baynes st, to the shops and withdrew

His cash. No doubt for drugs, I think to myself.

He was on social media as Social lunatic

And he was that. Would associate with the lowest

Forms of life who either were neighbours or

Visitors to Baynes st. But it didn't matter because the

Whole of the surrounding suburbs seemed Baynes st

Types. Otherwise, he was an alright guy.

It was the day before Australia Day and I secretly hoped

There'd be one or two pro-republicans out

Drunk and celebrating the warmth that had days before

Ripped through the south east.

I told him I had been away and it was clear that I wasn't

Missed. Typically perceptive as always. The man only

Knew me when he wanted something, money.

But was good for saying hi when seeing each other around.

We call it Aussie day but the real ones of us refer to it as

Invasion day. The first nations people hadn't adapted

Well to colonisation, the day of white settlement the day

Chosen for celebrating the country was thought to be by

Some, in poor taste.

I arrived home and put on my music, and maybe I poured

A drink. I could never do justice to writing a poem

About this, the weak-minded revellers to come the

Following day that were mostly for all intents and purposes

Anachronisms for another time when it was so acceptable

To think of whites as better than blacks. Sometimes it

Seemed my countrymen had betrayed me.

Incredibly powerful, I can safely say the world has always been and will always sadly be full of human sheep. 🌹

Human sheep made me laugh, mate. Maybe because it's enough to say sheep, but human sheep has a ring to it
