Autumn

The heat of summer, drenching my body and leaving glistening trails on my skin,
is in remission
The  suns intensity watered down so that I freely let the golden, hushed rays
play on my arms without fear of burning.
Attar of roses, that  filled my senses  with the smell of Turkish delight, now lost
in the ether.
Buds denuded, leaves dried and brittle,
waiting to fall,
to join the long , wild grass ,growing rampant.
In the sun I could be in a golden land, gilded pyramids edging the horizon,
pools of shadow at my feet  with  the luminous  orb overhead.
Radiant  warmth of the sun now leaching  into the unforgiving earth.
The autumn breeze catches my breath and whips the scarlet leaves newly shed.
Just as the sultriness of the dog days, now pass into beyond ,
The air, now cool, feels  like the pleasure of an open refrigerator on a balmy day
All reminders  of lifes’ endless circle.
I am a child again, running my hands through the golden tapestry of decaying leaves looking for
Horse chestnuts,
Autumn approaches, and with it brings a pastoral quiescence that clears
my sun drenched mind, and  leads my heart to more romantic, exotic places…
where I can wait, in anticipation, for Winters awakening.
