Where are the dragons?
The mighty beasts
That bring the world changes
Down from the dream bringer
Into this material world
Of blood and bone
Of wood and stone
Light the sacred fires
Return to ancient holy places
Wizards and prophets alike
The warriors of time and space
Listen to the voices
Crying in the wind
Where are the dragons?
The ones we called
The beasts of righteousness
The bringers of the new age
A return to the people
Of power and glory
Of pure magic and spirit
That was their birth right
The heritage of love
Taken away by a great evil
When light was obscured
By the blind greed of men
Yet, the dragons are here
They are being called
As men awaken from
The sickness of a dream
and light the sacred fires
Again

Who doesn't like a dragon tale!
I enjoyed the images presented in the poem, the dragon and wizards of ancient times. When mythology was cherished, whorshipped and inspired by. I belive that the dragon is (hope) in what form I'm unsure, when you write:
I took it to mean, mankind in general -- spends a considerable amount of energy and finances on acquiring material items within the world. While, some people in a community go without, there is an out of balance to what people possess in the world. There is a lot of emphasis placed on acquiring items (worldly possessions), which take away from the true gold a person could obtain which is everything in the world that cost nothing, friendship, love, happiness, closure, acceptance, power, praise.
I thought about dragons the entire first read. Then, when I read it again, the dragon disappeared.

I love your insight into the write,, it is that and
it is also about dragons,.. whatever the reader wants,
it is not shoved in their face., they can enjoy the poem
for the love of a dragon,,,,or like you have done
on a deeper level that is fun as well..
Again thank you for your time and well thought out
opinion.. it really does stand out when someone takes
the extra time to really put down an opinion
( if they had one of course)
