Backup

Backup

I am stuck in the shadows
Cloaked in darkness
While she prances
With a devilish grin

I am trapped,
The door locked,
while she, a puppeteer,
Tugs expertly at his strings

I am alone,
but not lonely,
as I watch her
mold him like clay.
I watch from the darkness,
just sitting there,
Waiting for my time to play.

She finally leaves,
It’s just him and me
As his fingers close
around the key

With the click of a lock,
dim light filters in
A twinge of shock,
A devilish grin.

I do not feel sad,
nor do I feel glad,
I am simply there.
Until she’s gone,
he doesn’t care,
because I’ll always be
the hidden half
I’ll always be
the backup.
