Bad news is bettered by fiction.
When told bad news,
Our hearts skip to the beat of fear.
Whether it be expected or not,
It’ll be something we didn’t want to hear.
Because that’s what reality is.
The existence of loss and heartbreak,
That will hurt you and leave you beaten,
Will insist that your life be hard to take.
So dreams are the water,
That make reality easier to swallow.
They cushion the hardships,
And soften the blow.
This is why we wrap our minds securely in books.
Fantasy worlds make more sense to us,
As the creations of our imagination,
Are idealised to us.
We crave this escape so much,
That we envelope ourselves in fiction,
Movies, novels and TV programmes,
In the hope that it effects our real life affliction.
So when we allow ourselves
To slip into an imaginary land,
We slip away from the bad news of this earth,
And forget the tribulations at hand.
