BANG BANG
How Gun Control, Psychological Counselling, Awareness and Education could prevent the loss of innocence
BANG! BANG!
Did you hear that?
The echoes of gunshots through the empty school halls
Wimpering cries of innocence lost
You can hear a pin drop
It's not a terrorist
It's not a gang related drive-by shooting
It's not a robbery or domestic
It's your average teenage boy
He was bullied at school yesterday, all day, every day for the last 2 years
He can't talk about it, he can't cry alone anymore
He has to suck it up because boys don't show emotions.
Underneath that stern hardened face is a child hurting and spewing with anger at boiling point ready to erupt
He doesn't know how to seek help
He's scared of being laughed at again
He can't take the inner turmoil anymore
His parents are too busy to notice
His father would call him a wimp anyway
He has no close friends to confide or vent
He only has a virtual reality in cyberspace
He's angry at God for not protecting him
He's angry at society for the ignorance
He's angry and defeated, depleted emotionally
He's physically weak and small and he can't fight the bullies
His anger explodes
He sits then paces continuously thinking and ranting hatred to himself
Hes decided life's not worth living anymore
It's all too easy now,
He ravages through his parents bedroom
His father never locks the gun safe
It's always there ready and loaded along with a large ammunition stack.
He packs his schoolbag for the last time and waits till morning
He heads to his last day at school
He has a long list of names
He anticipates seeing the fear in their eyes
Today they will meet their demise
Today they will pay
Many will die and many will cry
He wants them to fear, he wants them to cry, he wants them to feel his pain as they lay there and die!
Contented he waits knowing they will all be in the gymnasium
He carefully revises his list and checks off the names
He doesn't want to miss anyone
It's time, they are all unaware of the wrath about to take place
He now enters the gym and there they are
They are completely unaware
They laugh at him doing their daily rituals of cruel abuse
He drops his schoolbag and pulls out his gun
Their faces turn pale with a terrified realisation of what's about to go down
He has them cornered
And then it starts!
BANG! BANG!

Wow, this poem is powerful, thought provoking, sad, heartbreaking, frustrating and paints the portrait well of a seriously mentally ill young person who was able to get a hold of a gun. An issue that the United States has become too familiar with.

We have to learn how to read our children, to recognize the symptoms of depression that is often accompanied with being bullied.
There have been too many school shootings in our country and in our world.
Thanks for sharing your poem.
I bet it was hard to write.
Well done 'sob', I cried so much I had to stop reading; ???
