Battle Scars

Battle scars upon my hand
Put there by a vicious man
His blackened skin I still remember
The way his eyes glowed like ember
The look in his wicked eyes
Reflected all the shielding lies
I told to my friends to keep them away
From the grounds of despicable pay
Battle scars upon my arm
Were meant for a greater harm
I saw it in her face at the start
Glad the blade didn’t reach my heart
I fear if it had that night
My friends would not have taken it lite
I can’t say much of how they’d feel
So I play it off, like it’s no big deal
Battle scars upon my chest
Fill me with so much distress
My heart beats; proving life
Even after the carving knife
My friends tell me to stop this now
But I, myself, am not sure how
I fear they’ll leave me for what I’ve done
I fear it’s a battle that can’t be won
Battle scars upon my face
Tell a tale of a hideous place
Stained with blood, pain, and fear Â
Even now, I wonder how I’m here
Even after all my foolish deeds
They are the prize I truly need
My friends sit close under the tree
Knowing that they still love me
