Behind Closed Eyes

Behind closed eyes I see a world
where every man is free.
Where politics creates a state
of prosperous liberty
With eyes closed tight I see goodwill
and peace to men on earth,
each  human soul achieves its goal
and each man knows his worth
Through shuttered lids I only see
a misty shaded grey,
where no one colour dominates
or tries to rule the day
The shade of eyelids you would think
have kept me from the light,
but in the darkness even more
shines out the wrongs from right
The judgements we make carelessly
on our beliefs and lives,
we only value wealth and powerÂ
it helps this world survive
With open eyes the world around
is battered and unkind.
Injustice,pain and hurt abound
I think I will stay blind

Oh Lady Lodigiana this echoes so much with me. I so often hate what my open eyes bring and search, with eyes closed, for a way to believe in us.
With eyes closed I can ignore the fact that Iran have discovered the largest oil field ever and suddenly the US find an excuse for war.Â
With eyes closed I can pretend that Bojo is just a nightmare.Â
With closed eyes I could be a comfortable ostrich with my head comfy in the ground.Â
I so wish that could be me.Â
It cannot be.Â
My beautiful friend Lady L, we are poets. We are not allowed to close our eyes.Â
It's the deal we make with God.Â
NigelÂ
I wish your words didnât resonate as much as they do with me..but we seem to be speaking with one voice here my friend....the utter madness that seems to be taking over sense and reasoning is sometimes just beyond belief and there is that temptation to isolate ourselves by shutting it all out... but when you say we have a deal with God..that is such an agreeable  way to want to remain positive and use whatever skills we might have been blessed with to try to wake up the sleeping conscience in man to rethink, reassess and take positive steps  forward and try to lift the shutters and  let in some reality...Wilfred Owen was able to show the true reality of war through his words and dispell the âblind Patriotismâ that lead to such horror..words are powerful Nigel and  even if they may not seem to match the readers long held entrenched views..some of the words and sentiment might still remain with them..and maybe make a small change. Because often its the many small changes that make a major difference...Thank you for your words and thoughts Sir Nigel and many good wishes for a New Year filled, we hope, with peace and goodwill towards each other. Lady L, a little further down this page is my poem Black. At the moment my brother, sister in law and my beautiful nephew and niece are surrounded by fire in the outskirts of Sydney. I am so scared for them but I wonder how much concern I would be feeling if the connection was not there.Â
Poets or not I think we have to filter a bit.Â
How can we sleep when our beds are burning.....Â
NigelÂ
Oh Nigel I am sure you must be so concerned about them..it truly is one of the most shocking things ever and on such a massive scale!!! We have friends in Australia who are fortunate enough to be on the West coast so have avoided the worst of the fires as the worst seems to be in the East and South-- but looking at the map of Australia and where the fires are concentrated it becomes clear this is an appalling disaster that will take its toll on people, the environment and the ecology of the Country..please God that there will soon be an end to this and no more lives are put in jeopardy. Although one thing I am sure of Nigel, is that with your social conscience even if you didn't have loved ones there you would still be concerned.. Thoughts with you and your family Sir Nigel.. Lodigiana xx
for Great poem and it is sad what has just happen
and hope there will not be war and to you both
I do not like trump I didn't vote him and will not vote
for him this year if I had the money I would move
out of America I would love to move to EnglandÂ
to the countryside I have been to England many time
just want to let know how I feelÂ
Greg just drive north a few hours. There is a place called Canada there. Sorry but I fought for this country. I get so upset when people state they just want to leave. Why not try to make change? I love England too but I dont want their politics lol. Â
I am a Libertarian so I think both sides suck. The only way to stop this is to quit allowing them so much power in our lives
Greg I wonât move thisÂ
my Country and I love it too and I will never move as well I just say that when Iâm frustrated I love England as wellÂ
Greg both sides of our government is bad and it wonât get any better Iâm not a Democrat Iâm not a Republican I am an independent
Greg
I brought this up because you stated if you had money you would go. If I won the lottery I would stay. I love this country. True I would travel a lot internationally but I would never move.Â
Thanks so much my friend. There is a little madness everywhere sadly..even here in England..I guess a good Citizen's job is to work together with like minded people to try to make whatever Country they live in , the best it can be...not the most powerful, not the richest , but the most caring, compassionate and inclusive Country it can be and that happens little by little but it needs people to continue to try to change things for the better and not lie down and let it just happen, and that is easier said than done sometimes..Really appreciate your comments Greg and sending you warm hugs from across the Ocean. I did not vote for Trump either. Unfortunately we did and do not have any real choices here. The Progressives have destroyed our country, while normal folks who do not think with foolish emotions are left with the choices of a terrible left or a corrupt right.
As far as Iran goes, yeah we did what we had to do. Obama screwed things up so bad we had no choice. Â
love your poem
Hi Greg, that's pretty much the same the world over...we have a Prime Minister who can hardly say a complete sentence and who is regarded as a buffoon...people have become so xenophobic that anyone who promises to stop immigration is jumped on as the only possible 'saviour' of the Country. Now we are leaving the EU every one who voted for this thinks we will be fine as Trump will give us great Trade deals...the more cynical of us believe that if there is a conflict between US and Iran we will be held over a barrel to offer allegiance ..otherwise 'no trade deals' ..and our genuine long term allies in Europe will be saying 'you left us for what?' ..as will many of us be saying...ah well one can only hope this will all blow over and sanity returns to those who have the power to change things truly for the better..so pleased though that you liked the poem..we can always try to put the world to rights with our words, hopes and aspirations. Thank you xx
A truly wonderful verse and exactly how I feel...?
Oh wow! Thank you so much Marion..itâs always good to know a piece has relevance for someone else too. Lodigiana x
