Poem -

Belonging

Here I am in the usual corner
with people pushing me over the border
I am an outsider and i don't belong
I know this too well I know I am wrong

Black ship amongst the pure whites
a white fly scared by the lights
I am different and I know
I made a point to say chapeau
to anyone who does't fit
and who feels alone but who doesn't quit.

Have you ever been in a full room
and felt alone with dread and gloom?
Have you looked at people and have you thought
this person is empty and they know nought?

I travelled the world looking for home
I visited places after I left Rome
I am still searching and digging deep
as everynight I cannot sleep

Nobody claims me as their own
I feel alone on a foreign stone
no matter where no matter who with
belonging for me remains a myth.

Hi Laura

I can really feel the emotion in this poem, and of the feeling of not belonging - Nicely portrayed! Life can sometimes be a lonely place!

I love this, and boy does it resonate. The emotion expressed in the poem is one I too am familiar with. We are built andΒ strive for connection, something I have found and enjoy in this community. The best advice IΒ have read and I am practising is to learn to be at peace with yourself. Wonderful write, thanks for sharing.
