When once upon a time you tried, but still did not understand

Just what she meant, and for you she was laying out a plan

She saw you as someone special and she let it be known

Just because you have grown, doesn't mean you're grown

Everyone grows physically, but not always in mind

A true grown person is almost impossible to find

Granny taught me strength, for she knew I would have to be strong

She knew even tough I had family, I would still be alone

She taught me courage, and to stand tall and face adversity 

She taught me in myself, I should always believe

She taught me honesty, for she knew it was the way to be

She taught me not to cry for all to see

She gave me wisdom to be able to discern

She taught me to keep growing and from lifes lessons learn

She taught me humility and to not be afraid

She taught me not to let others get in my head

For you see, you are as great as the next man be

Not to dim my light, but let it shine for all to.see

I was given all this, but still it took some time

To not let others speak for me, or my life define

Too busy being afraid to let others know the real you

Do you tried to become someone else, and let others for you choose

Confused is what you were, because mixed signals to you were sent

You thought being assertive was to another being mean

Because the passive side of you is all they had seen

Even you started to think you were weak, because little would you say

The struggle got harder day after blessed day

You fought with yourself, because you didn't think you knew how

To fight for yourself, so some things you should not have, you did allow

Caring way too much abour what another thought

From the depths of the shadows you were afraid to come out

You hid behind a mask of deception, because you tried to make yourself ashame

Straight up allowed others to sully your name
