Billy The Squid
Billy was a squid, a really small squid,
His world seemed so large around him,
Attracted by lights, swimming in the dark,
He knew there were predators with big fins.
One day he was swimming, down by the reef,
Looking for something to eat,
Searching for anything, a crab, a fish,
Something to make a nice treat.
His other squid friends, met daily at noon,
To scour the reef for a morsel,
Billy saw food, in the shape of a fish,
His friends shouted fin on the dorsal.
Billy didn't care, as he zeroed right in,
He was lining up his target for lunch,
His friends they all scattered, fanning away,
Metres away now for his fish crunch.
His friends warned again, but Billy ignored,
His eyes totally fixed on his prey,
He had no concept of, the trouble behind,
I am going to be eating this day.
Just before lunch, Billy's world just turned dark,
He grabbed the fish tightly and then,
With a couple of chews, Billy was no more,
His friends never saw him again.
The shark had his meal, an easy one too,
Billy was too determined to hide,
When you are too far focused, on the things right ahead,
Danger can hit you from the side.
