Poem -

Bitters

I've written you out of mind.

I see you, and it doesn't even register.

Usually.

But today-

Today I caught sight of you

and it hurt.

Because you didn't catch sight of me.

You walked on by

as if I were mist.

And I kept looking back; hoping you'd smile.

But it wasn't so,

just life's bittersweet twist.

I think it hurt the most

to know that everything was just

bitters-

let loose in the wind

to dissipate-

to fall-

to be only relevant in a different place-

a different time.

Sweet is the smile of understanding.

But Bitter is the tear of bereft.

Too little

Too late.
