Poem -

Bless the child who waited to die

Lips rimmed with a hue of blue

his eyes pained and strained

he huddles against the wall

hoping to shield himself against the cold

he hasn't eaten for days

hence the sight in his eyes

is just a daze

his breathing is labored and quickly becoming faint

his lips quiver as he prays

first to God, an angel and even a saint

the cold has numbed him

the hunger has paralyzed him

his flimsy, coat is torn at the seams

if only death could come

and take him home

then at least he wouldn't be aloneĀ

fifteen years on this earth had been peril

hell beyond description

an orphaned child

with struggles, not mild

now welcomes death

the final stride

life had taken it's toll on his body

beaten by many

abused by hundreds more

all he wants is a place

he can call home

would heaven want him?

he anxiously thinks

as his heart starts to sink

I've been good when i needed to be

no one can judge him after all the horror he had to see

God will understand, wouldn't he?

He had stolen to calm the rage of hunger

He lied to escape an undeserved beating

He had schemed in winter to get some heating

all he did, was to survive

everything endeavored, just to stay aliveĀ

now he has come to the end of his journey

his life span nearly done

no one would know the tragic race he had run

hell, after all was already experienced on earth

what Satan has, couldn't be much worse

but surely God would take pity on his call

He rubs his palms together thinking of his fate

maybe now, he will finally have a mate

thousand others have died before

who knows what friendships are in store?

Saint Peter might love him, even Saint Paul

Will heaven be sunny? Surely it cannot be cold

there won't be markets where children are sold

right?

as he lays thinking, he slowly slips away

someone in the distance

is calling his name

There Christ stands, in the crystal sky

ready to reclaim

the child who waited to die...
