BLOOD FOR GOD

BLOOD FOR GOD

Neighs and whips were heard as the horses galloped
Men of faith rode in thirst of blood
The crescent and cross at war; for Jerusalem
Mortal men battled to save an Almighty God
A quest for redemption in an eternal realm

They claim to be legions of their religion
Slitting throats and burning at the stake
Foregoing humanity in defence of a pledge
While intolerant to things they are yet to know
How can love for God make one’s heart rigid?

It is forgiveness on the pulpit but on the street is vengeance
The chocking of love and understanding made hatred flood
‘I, a Pharisee won’t offer my seed to a Gentile in union’
The bigotry ‘I am better than you are; you are lost’
Beliefs that prejudice; how destructive an inheritance!

When are we knitting tranquility in this region?
When shall peace be given an abode to stay?
Has extremism not become the thin end of the wedge?
It is the seed of compromise that has to be sowed
For we all can’t drink from the cup of one religion
