Blowing in the wind
I know why the cage bird sings.
It sings because it's the closest thing to flight;
To feel the breeze between your brittle, beaten wings,
The bounding wind blowing, billowing around your body,
through your bones,
Like the sighs at the end of the song,
My mother used to sing when I was just small.
Still I'm small.
"I'm not very big yet God" she would say.
Dismay.
A rainy day.
Singing in a cage,
Because we can't go outside in the rain and fly,
We have to build up our strength inside.
To weather the harsh, ragingĀ storms laying ahead in the sky.
