Blue Valentines 40yrs on

Blue Valentines 40yrs on

I just listened to a favourite album,
Tom Waits, Blue Valentines.
As I listened to the poetry,
the piano, the guitar and the words .
I held the sleeve and I realised
this genius is 40 years old.

Musical film noir and poetically perfect
childhood worlds.

Pretty blue guns putting ribbons in curls.

So this is a simple thank you
to Tom Waits for this seminal work.
I hope that I'll still be listening
in another 40 years time .

Hey Tony,
I think I'm about to make you rather jealous.
In the early eighties I used to work on Finchley Road in London while Tom Waits was living in Swiss Cottage. On the day before my day off in the week (retail) I would go for a drink in the Swiss Cottage pub. I met this American bloke who's face sort of rang a bell. We got very, very drunk. In the end I had to ask him; I'm sure I know your face?
He said "You might know my music, my name's Tom Waits".
God I loved the eighties,
cheers Tony,
Nigel
