AT THE BREAKING POINT

AT THE BREAKING POINT

Neighbor, you must know:
I hear your cries at midnight.
There are sobs,
and shouts,
and noises of things thrown,
while I hum hymns beneath soft pillows.
Still, I
continue praying for your peace,
and wondering when enough will be enough.
Hoping for the Comforter to visit you,
and believing that your next storm will have rain.
Neighbor, hold onto yourself.
Never assume you are alone,
just because depression torments your darkness
don’t fall---don't you dare lose faith ---
for I am ever praying,
even when I see your swollen smile at daybreak.
