Broken Promises

The taste of blood enters her mouth.
She's seeing stars again.
Even though he promised her and said that he
Will never ever do it again.
A promise that was said, but was never meant
To be kept, once again he leaves, and all
Of the pain, heartache, and hurt she was
Dealt, under the bloody rug is where it is
All swept. He comes "home"; and at "home"
There are loud voices, screaming, crying,
And misunderstanding, but he still makes
The same promise and says his love for her
Is everlasting. From now on a piece of her
Is lost, her womanhood, her independence for
Empty love and broken promises is what paid
The cost. A woman that was once bold,
Confident, always inspired is now beaten,
Ragged, and tired. Never afraid and always
Open, now reduced to a timid little girl by
A promise that was broken. And she cries.
