Bygones Of Beirut
Yesterday we went to a festival, it was Lebanese in its theme;
It brought back some dear memories, of a man named Dave Shaheen!
A close friend of my Fathers, he was born in Lebanon;
In Beirut, a city once most beautiful, but now its loveliness is gone!
.
He told me he would take me there, and we would revel in its past;
The Ancient Walls and Temples, erected forever there to last!
Of course, this was 1965, before men destroyed what history had built;
Years later, it lays in shambles, the Cedars all left to wilt!
.
But this event was different, the immigrants all had smiles;
Children with their parents, separated by six thousand miles!
Now living in America, the Land of Freedom and of Hope;
No longer fearing terrorists, nor with families loss to cope!
.
.
The freedom of fear
Brings happiness to people
Who were once oppressed

These terrorists are so un Islamic and anti Islamic they ruin both Muslims and nonmuslim lives in many places. We read how they even hope to destroy the holy kaabah in Mecca that every true Muslim turns to as a unifying focal point of worship. They are outsiders condemned by majority Muslims because they seek to ruin the image of Muslims.
Your poem is fabulous,Lebanon is if the countries I admire for its prophetic historical seat charm and all. Your descriptions were narrated superbly. Kudos.
Dear S.zaynab,
You are absolutely right! These monsters seek to destroy all that is sacred to the true Holy Muslims. Fortunately, they are losing their war, and hopefully, will soon be eradicated. If it was up to me, every one I captured, would be put in a cage, and burned alive, as they have done to many of their captives.
Thinking about Beirut, when Linda and I went to this Lebanese Festival, brought back joyous memories of how passionately Dave Shaheen spoke of his beautiful city, juxtaposed with the sadness I felt, when I thought about how it lays today in shambles.
