Camp fire

The cool steady breeze blows
Across the sea to the landÂ
where we was building a tent
to camp there on the sand
The sun was not that very hot
with white clouds and blue sky'sÂ
And we all would stop to look
When ever the girls was passing by
It was five of us that day
my two best friends Frankie and DostÂ
who both pass away some years agoÂ
the three of us were really very close
And there was my neighbor Dion
Who lives right next to weÂ
And then from across the street
my friend Cutty and then Me
every couple of weeks we wouldÂ
pack our bags and pick a beach to go
And this weekend we decided to campÂ
on the long windy beach in mayaro
We were young and free spirited
with our hearts full of life’s desires
and we use to talk about our dreamsÂ
Smoking a joint by the campfire
The stars were very bright that night
in the background of a yellow full moon
And we made a pot of vegetable soup
But we all forget bring any spoon
Next day we went walking up the shore
and I met a girl name Caroline
That’s was so many years go
But her face still lives on my mind
She was with her parents and sistersÂ
They were under a coconut tree
and I couldn’t take my eyes off her
then she just look and smiles at me
And every chance I gotÂ
i would go to talk with her every dayÂ
and I can still remember the emptiness i felt
Seeing her parents car leave and drive away
up to today i still think of her
and i guess all my life i always will
and there will always be an emptiness
in my heart that can never be fill
after that we always went back to mayaro
But I never did ever saw her againÂ
And as I write this poem so many years after
i still miss her and wish i could see her again
When you are young and invincible
Your life is full of so many storiesÂ
Some with your disappointments
And some with all of your glories’
our life's take different road and direction
and we just never notice when
life just has away of catching up with you
and we all split up and never notice to comprehend
My two best friends Frankie and dost Died
while i was living in AmericaÂ
Never getting to reach their dreamsÂ
They wish for as young men by the campfire
my neighbor Dion is a Rasta now
married with children and lives in TrinidadÂ
Cutty spend a year in New YorkÂ
Then return home cause his kids were sad
I have always thought that one day
my friends would have come to New York
and we would bar be que have some beers
and just like the old days sit around and talk
We use to talk about our future
and hopes and dreams our hearts desire
just five naive young friends
Smoking a joint by the campfire
Rest in peace my friends Frankie and dost
and tonight as I end this poem I knowÂ
You’re by a campfire in heavenÂ
Talking bout our days in mayaro
