Poem -

the rain

the rain

Young love is like magic
It can give you strength
And to be with the one you love
You would go through any length

And when you are close to them
You keep them safe under your umbrella
They are a beat of your heart now
You are no longer singing acapella

When I met Tereza
I was so in love with her
And she was in love with me
And become close like a stamp and a letter

She loves to go to picnics
so, we would pack our baskets and ride bicycles to the park
and today out of nowhere appeared a storm
and the place suddenly becomes dark

she was frightened by the thunder
and I hold her in my arms
and I said it's ok
the weather would soon be calm

It's just the rain, I said to her
As she looked up at the dark sky
Seeing lightening start to strike
As the clouds went rolling by

I put her hands in mine
And we held each other tight
Never wanting to let go
Throughout the stormy night

I drop her home that evening safely
And we kiss goodnight
Then we talk on the phone before she fell asleep
And I said to her I will always be there for her to make sure she is alright

When I ask her to marry me
She said yes right away
I didn’t even get to finish my proposal speech
That I prepared all night for today

After that, the months went passing by
Waiting with anticipation and joy
One day she became my wife
And we had a beautiful baby boy

Just a happy and happy time
And very soon he was walking
One day I took him for an ice cream
And he was eating his ice cream and talking

Then he said dad what's that, he asked
Feeling something on his head
I just smiled down at my little son
It's just the rain, I said.

Tereza had he career
And sometimes she had to travel away
And we supported each other
We were just happy every day

One night she was traveling from the airport
And I waited anxiously all night
Wondering what was going on
Wondered if she was alright

At 2 a.m. the phone rang
They said there had been a terrible car crash
They said it so fast that she never saw it coming
And that it had happened in a flash

I didn’t know what to tell my little boy
His mother loved him so much
And now how am I going to tell him
That he won’t have his mommy again to hug and touch

I had to go to the hospital
And see her laying there
Why, why God, why this now
It's not fair

Today I am standing by her casket
 Holding my young boy's hand
"Where's mom" daddy, my son asked
He was too young to understand

Dad, why are your eyes wet?
my little boy looked up and said
as I quickly wiped the tears away
It's just the rain, he said

As the days get harder
Time slowly goes by
My little boy was told the truth
And many times, cried for his mommy

It's going to be hard for us
Harder for him to as he grows
I pray that she is looking over him
And I wish my little boy finds happiness as time goes
