Cancer.

He reached out for his water, hands trembling and frail.
His body cold but clammy, his skin waxy but pale.
His mouth was dry, his tongue so rough.
He tried to fight but he knew he would say his goodbye's soon enough.
A brave man, who enjoyed life and lived each day.
But now this disease had control, taking the life he once knew away.
And now he laid weak, scared and broken.
So many word's he wanted to say, but they remained unspoken.
His body had become so thin, you could see his bones.
And through staggered breath, you could almost hear his pain filled moans.
His family looked on, heartbroken but proud.
But they couldn't stay long, they didn't want to overcrowd.
A silent tear, rolled down his delicate cheek.
So badly he wished he had the energy to speak.
His wife lay beside him, not letting go of his hand.
On repeat his favorite song, from his favorite band.
This soothed his pain, and helped with the fear.
"You can go when you're ready." His wife whispered in his ear.
Using the last of his strength, he stroked her pretty face.
His way of showing her he loved her, then he imagined a happy place.
Cancer had taken yet another life.
He always planned to grow old with his wife.
But souls live on, loved ones are always nearby.
That's the reason, they're so many stars, that fill the night sky.
