The Captains

Two boats amid the open sea,
Each a crew of only one,
Sailed through storms and days of light,
And chased after the sun.
Their sails were great and opened wide,
And full of mighty strength.
The wooden sides were rich and bright,
And ran the boats’ great length.
As the sun began to rise
And slip into the sky,
Captain one and captain two
Donned on their disguise.
Both too shy and slightly scared,
To show their actual face,
They put on masks of bravery,
And took their rightful place.
Up on the deck they looked abroad,
At each other’s ship,
They nodded, waved, and readied themselves,
For the long and tiring trip.
New waters were going to be explored,
And islands newly found,
They would sail for months and even years,
If they didn't need to ground.
There came a day later on,
When they were on the brink,
Of showing off who they were,
And their masks began to sink.
Captain one took it off,
And revealed a little smile.
Captain two then followed suit,
Awaiting this for a while.
A time came eventually,
To retire their respective ships,
And anchor together on the land,
Go on different kinds of trips.
Captain one and captain two,
Had sailed the mighty seas,
Their newest journey was a different sort,
Through meadows and the trees.
One cabin amid the wild forest,
That overlooked the stream,
Housed two captains and a little mate,
A crew of only three.
