Carl Hickey

I rolled into the saloon
About sixty minutes short of high noon
The folk in this tavern happened
To stop their darn yappin
They know why I am here
I can smell their fear
You see the sheriff of this town killed my brother
And it made my motherĀ
Suffer
I don't take kindly to that
He is gonna hang for that
With his own rope
I will watch him hang and choke
I put my pistol on the counter , I order a drink
The bartender cautions me to stop and think
He says you know the sheriff is a hell of a shot
Hell kill you before that noose is knot
I payed him no mindĀ
It's almost that time
I slam another whiskey
Then I hear a voice say my name
( Carl Hickey ? )
I turn and I noticeĀ
A gun drawn ,I focas
Your one dead sheriff I start to say
The good people in the tavern start to pray
No time the grab the rope so I go for my gun
As I say ( this will be fun )
And just at the junctureĀ
I felt a sharp puncture
.....
You see , I wanted to kill the law
But forgot I killed the bar mans paw
When my back was turned he stabbed me between the shoulder blades
It was a set up , I fell for the charade
Now I wander this saloon
Listening to this hokey tune
I may be dead but I make sure all that enter
Will never forget, will always remember
