C.C. Baxter

Inspired by 'The Apartment' ( 1960)

C.C. Baxter

C.C Baxter is a solitary guy
Who works hard, like a drudge, in a labyrinthine
Insurance company in New York City:
He is just another cog in the machine
Of grinding capitalism, Soon he moves
Up the ladder, via the use of the rooms,
Of his apartment for clandestine affairs.
CC Baxter, the wage slave, is bound to serve.
His corrupt bosses spend nights there regularly
With their mistresses. C.C Baxter can't see
The Light, until he locates Love finally.
After many escapes, he leaves the company.
His dignity restored, he can now strive
Towards freedom, and no longer live a life,
Based on deceit. With his soul mate by his side,
Perhaps, he can now truly reach for the skies.
