Champagne Supernova
A poem for my uncle

Upmost respect to you Dear Mr Hill
What you say you’re gonna do is what you willÂ
You’ve always done it, pulled yourself away
You stand by every word you sayÂ
Through the eyes of society, you’ve done it, aren’t you proud?Â
You’re not in a mansion, but your feet are on the groundÂ
You haven’t let trauma fuck with your lifeÂ
Two beautiful girls, a devoted wifeÂ
“She” said to me one dayÂ
What you gonna be when you’re older?Â
“Like Alex” I saidÂ
Shrugging my shouldersÂ
“Fucking soldier” she saidÂ
It didn’t mean much then, I was a kid, I just said itÂ
But I’m 24 now and I know that I meant itÂ
I didn’t mean I’d mimic every move that you makeÂ
Though I have stole most of your music tasteÂ
I meant I just wanted to be as strong as youÂ
As wise and successful and as armoured as youÂ
You’ve been through the mill, there’s no doubt in my mindÂ
That your life is how it is now, through years of grindÂ
I see why you’ve done itÂ
Separated yourselfÂ
I don’t fucking blame youÂ
I’m gonna aswellÂ
We shared a lot in life I just want you to knowÂ
That you are with me wherever I goÂ
You’ve played a role of the absent for meÂ
An uncle, guardian, a father, I know it’s deepÂ
But,Â
You make me proud
You always will
My champagne supernovaÂ
Then and stillÂ
