The now between then and when
A poem for an exhibition about recovery

The longest game of tug of warÂ
With who I am now and who I was beforeÂ
Push and pull
Fight and tugÂ
My future meÂ
Gives past self a hugÂ
Future tells pastÂ
The past is behindÂ
Past tells futureÂ
The future is blindÂ
The present whispers
Just be stillÂ
Feel the moment and find your willÂ
It’s not the past that’s holding on
Nor the future yet to dawnÂ
Here and now in this bright glowÂ
Is where the seeds of life will growÂ
Let go of what has come and goneÂ
And trust the path you’re walking on

Beautifully done, Saffron. Loved the wording and the message. M.Â
Your poem gets to the heart of inner struggle and self-discovery. It eloquently represents the conflict between the past and the future and indicates the importance of focusing on the present moment. I particularly liked the “tug of war” imagery, which effectively conveys the tension and complexity of this internal conflict..
