The Changes In My Sight

My world changed so quickly.
What was once the blue of the ocean
Turned to shades of blue, and green,
And with reflections of a sunset
There is Orange, red, and purple.

What were once green forests
Turned to the vibrant colors of life.
Deep dark greens in trees,
Bright, shining greens on the forest floor,
The various colors of flowers that line the natural paths.
The different shades of yellow and orange
That pine needles and leaves change to
As the forests prepare to sleep.

What was once the stark, dead white of winter
Turned to a blanket,
Protecting life, giving it time to strengthen,
So when it wakes, it can be even brighter than before.

What was once the black,
Endless, void of night
Turned to midnight blues
And dark purples,
With small points of light
Which promise that there will always be hope.
With a bright orb,
Less harsh but giving off light
Just as protective as the day.

My world may have had color before,
Though it's true that it was more often gray,
But through you
I saw new shades.
I saw the color of life, and hope.

My world will never again be gray.
My world will never again be dull,
Lifeless.

I thought that without you
I couldn't hold on to all that you taught me.
I was wrong.

I will always see the complexities,
Hidden at first glance.
I will always hear the little noises,
But instead of giving me fear,
They will remind me that life goes on.
Because of you,
My world will always be filledĀ
With the small signs of hope.

But, although life goes on,
Although I will always
See the hope,
Without you, it is empty.

Without you, I am reminded:

Through the flickering, playful flames
Of a campfire.
Through the copious amounts of life
In a tiny tide pool.
Through a compliment
From a stranger.
Through a small act of kindness,
Between friends who grew apart.

Everything reminds me
Of the fire you lit in my heart.
Of the joy my soul felt
As it recognized you.
Of the sparkle you put in my eyes.

And without you,
The colors, the hope, the passion,
They are meaningless.

For what is the point
Of caring for the signs around me
When I know that they are lies?

I can finally see
The filth and pollution in the ocean.
The destruction and death we bring to the forest.
The darkness and death of winter.Ā
The shadow and enemies in night.

And I can see the cunning
In a strangers eyes
As they find a way to use you.

The sight that you gave me
When you showed me the world
Changed my sight so suddenly.

The clarity you gave me
When you left my world
Shook me to my core.

Without you
My world is brighter and clearer
Than ever before,
But it is also much darker
And infinitely more painful.

I thought I knew pain
But he was right,
I was a child.
It was nothingĀ
Compared to the pain
When you can
Always
See the end.
