Charade

Charade

Naked and freezing

pain not easing

he beat me again

I never know when

He's gone to the bar

taken the car

says my ugly face ruined his mood

and he can't stomach food

I reach for the phone

stretching hurts, groan

report him for drink driving

he'll call me low and conniving

Tonight he'll be in a cell

I get reprieve from the hell

the police know the score

ask me to tell them more

I was brought up that man was king

you must obey the ties of the wedding ring

until my mother is dead and gone

for her the charade will go on

Excellent write Susan, its very difficult to accept what goes on behind closed doors, when I hear about an abusive relationship I just hope and pray it will end.

Hi Gerard I was in an abusive relationship many years ago now.  It's hard to explain the staying but I got the courage to leave eventually.  All the best Susan x
