Charley Street

Charley Street

Christmas is here

Lights fill the skies

Shops full of gifts

For people to buy

Trimmings and trinkets

Chocolates and sweets

Crowds singing carols

Out in the streets

Down charley street

Out in the cold

Beggars and buskers

A story unfolds

Blankets of cardboard

Protect from the snow

No presents to buy

Or gifts to bestow

Spirits still high

They warm round a fire

Out in the open

No tree to admire

No food round a table

No presents in piles

An alternative Christmas

Met with a smile

A single voice sounds

Singing a hymn

Out of the blue

Others join in

Passers by pause

At the beautiful sound

A chorus of carols

Attracting a crowd

Voices united

Soft and serene

Strangers and friends

A wonderful scene

In true Christmas spirit

Everyone cared

Gifts passed around

Food and drink shared

At the end of the evening

The crowd ventured home

Leaving behind

The folk with no home

Plenty of food

Blankets and sheets

Grateful for Christmas

On Charley street
