Childhood

No memories of my childhood, But I know that it was sad,

can’t think of anything happy, just think that things were bad.

Arguments and shouting I think that’s what went on, it wasn’t too long after that, our dad was gone.

He came to visit sometimes, in his car he would arrive, bringing presents to persuade us to be more on his side.

His aftershave was smelly, he often smelt of drink.

Dad would take us for a drive, and to a pub I think.

He’d bring us out some pop and crisps, to try and keep us sweet.

Went back into the pub again, a woman he would meet.

The woman he was seeing, and told us not to tell.

Left us and our mother, to fend all by ourselves.

Our mother very lonely, and feeling very sad.

Was taken to the hospital, where she got really bad.

She didn’t come back home, like we all thought she would.

She died alone in hospital, I never understood.

Our mother is at rest now, and looking down on us.

The children she gave birth too, love her very much.
