Childhood Moments Like These

The feel of a soft fleece blanket brushed against my face
The smell of a baby after a warm bath
A puppy chasing my pant legs as I run and fall, then I am mauled
A mother cat curled up with her newborn kittens at her breasts
My grandmother's oatmeal raisin cookies in the cookie jar upon the countertop
My grandfather piling up all the grandchildren in one car to get to the ice cream parlor to get dilly bars
The drive-in theatre where we would bring our sleeping wear
We would fall asleep during dad's favorite western movie on the big screen
A walk to the penny candy store, where we would fill our bags full of goodies, my favorite, the slow poke
Going to the fair, eating corndogs, and cotton candy, riding the rides, up and down on the roller coaster, waving our arms
As a child, that old maple tree in the front lawn was a pretend gas station
My friends on their bicycles would have make believe cars and fill up their tanks at the tree
Catching lightening bugs at dark, and putting them all in a jar, watching them light up
Playing hopscotch and red rover, and shooting marbles, at recess on the playground at school
Marching in the band with my classmates for the homecoming parade
My first kiss, and my first love, holding hands, and wearing a bracelet with his name on it
Skating at the local skating rink, doing the hokey pokey, and skating backwards for the first time
All of the family together at Christmas time forming a circle singing holiday songs
Friday and Saturday nights watching the late night scary movies, with pizza and popcorn
Going to the football and basketball games with my friends then out for burgers and fries
My first car, my twenty first birthday, my first house, my first baby boy
If I had just one more moment in time for every wonderful thing, I would run in the wind
Dance on the streets, play my guitar, dress all up and really live it up
Now I am old, my energy has faded, my heart is weeping for just one more moment
With you by my side I will have everlasting moments in the glorious heavens above
We will dance and sing, hold hands, play ring around the rosie and pretend
Holding on to one more moment into the sky we will reach, through the clouds, over the rainbow into eternity
Childhood memories carry on forever in moments like this
