Children of the clay

Children of the clay

The children of the clay arose
to dance beneath the sun's delight
with the dance they learned to grow
a growth that helped them scale new heights

The children learned the songs and stories
of nature's verse and mother earth
a knowledge they then did harness
to spawn anew another worth

The children grew in size and stature
to make the planet work for them
avarice grew so deep however
to ravage all the hidden gems

The children multiplied in number
as they clamoured for the sun
many confined to the unconscious
shackled minds condemned to run

They wander now in hopeless stupor
glory dances with the doom
the earth has paid the price for favour
the sun eclipsed beneath the gloom.
