Christmas gone by

An old-fashioned Christmas When Carol singers came to your door.
Hot chestnuts for sale.Β
And the Salvation Army playing to help the poor.Β
An orange and an apple, meant the fruit way back then And there was always snow on the ground.Β
Lots of Turkey or a big fat hen.Β
Figgy pudding with a sixpence,
Christmas cake soaked in rum.
It always smelt delicious.
Long ago when I was young You would just expect one gift.
Delivered by Santa Claus.
A massive sack full was unheard of then
You never moan for more. And on Christmas morning, With your new toy under your arm.
You'd pull your mittens
And put a scarf on to keep warm
You couldn't wait to go out to play
To show your new toy to your friends
With Jack Frost nipping at your nose
There was no TV on back then Was it better than it is today Or was just cos we were young
As you grow older Is it worse, as more cynical you become Those Christmases long ago Sat around a warm log fire
Are only memories now
Along with a Christmas choir. So God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
I hope Santa brings you everything you wish
And you get to spend time with family and friends
And there someone's special under the Mistletoe for you to kiss.
Seasons greeting to you all.Β
