The Church Mouse

The Church Mouse

Willie was a quiet and timid church mouse

Who lived all his life in Gods holy house

He scampered up aisles, in the pulpits and stalls

And was warm and dry thro' winter to the falls

He dined on crumbs from the choirboy’s biscuits

The congregation, would sometimes, drop tiny tit-bits

He would sit thro' services while twitching his nose

At weddings he was known to hide under a rose

But Willies main aim in this wonderful life

Was to find for himself a perfect little wife

One day as it were, thro' part opened doors

Elsie scampered in on tiny dainty paws

There in the centre aisle they met eye to eye

And decided to give this union, of marriage, a try

Now Willie became father to a litter sent from hell

While all over the church they scampered pell-mell

They nibbled on pews, on bibles and on gates

Alter cloths and choirboy gowns met the same fate

They nibbled the pulpits and much, much worse

The nibbled away most of the chapters and verse

Then came harvest festival, the fare laid out over night

Now this was a banquet for their wildest delight

They nibbled the vegetables and all of the fruit

And lost their appeal of being cuddly and cute

To his study, next morning, the Vicar summoned Willie

And gave him a lecture on how not to be silly

If he wished to reside in this place of his birth

His family would have to live elsewhere on this Earth

" Farewell " said Willie to his wild little brood

And went back to dining on crumbs for his food

Now Willie is happy to be the only one in Gods house

And became, once again, a timid church-mouse
