Clutter

Clutter

I look at the knick-knacks, leftovers from your heart,
you really need to discard but don't know where to start;
there was a sad pocelain elephant from dear Auntie Di,
dusty dried flowers, a cross-eyed koala bear with a tie.

Then I wondered if they all came out to play at night,
dancing, smiling - enough to give anyone a nasty fright,
candles at different heights, all ready to wax lyrical,
bags with stars in, old cd's, faded photos were typical.

Frozen in time, look at you - your beauty would last forever,
grouped pictures positioned carefully, thought we were clever,
a snap of Prague, gave us the wrong currency when we went,
came back with more money than everything that we spent.

The man from house clearance found gold coins on his knees,
hoping to make a profit, he asked: 'Do you really want these?'
