Comedian

Comedian

They call me the comedian,
telling jokes is my profession,
never having any worries about the world ,
just reeling off laughter lines in quick succession,
people gather round as I enjoy my work,
the centre of attention,
hanging onto my every word ,
their laughter my saving redemption.

I stand out in the crowd; not one of them,
this is plain to see,
when I tell my one liners and anecdotes,
are they laughing with or at me ?
what could I be hiding ,
a dark secret way down in my soul ,
or is making the public laugh,
my ambition, my only goal?

you will never see the real me,
the personality behind the mask,
with all of their theorems and assumptions,
the psychologists have failed in their task,
only the chosen few will ever know,
what it is like to be with me,
these are the only ones,
with whom I can be truly free.
