Conscience

Conscience

It attaches itself to the back of your mind,
like a six inch nail in your back that you've been carrying for years,
a dull thudding pain;
the sensation will not go away,
nagging,biting,digging and burrowing
into the very depths of your soul,
sucking on your skin
and drowning your brain in a haze of it's own fluid,
as thick as melting chocolate,
spilling it's guts like a mashed slug,
suffocating as a pillow over your mouth and nose.
It's there ;hollowing out then bones,
a parasite eating through your very existence,
the fabric of life slowly turning to dust,
muscles decaying to jelly,
organs rotting away,
turned black by the cancer that we call our conscience .
