conscience

conscience

I tried to
eat my truth
but it did
not go
down well

I tried to paint
over my mistakes
only for it
to seep
through
the gloss

I tried to take my
pain
and bury
it deep
within the
crevice
of the earth

As a volcano
though
it erupted
causing
the residue
to
form a gargantuan crater
for all to see

The conscience
is like your
shadow

it is always
with you

it is the tormentor
of dreams

the creator
of demise

However
it can also
be a guide
to wisdom
the founder
of growth
and the
provider
to peace

This can only
happen though
if you allow
yourself
to accept
the consequences
and
grant oneself
forgiveness
