Conventional Beauty

Beauty.
What is beauty nowadays,
Other than a withered illusion,
To which we all desire and crave?

An idea which has been warped,
Moulded, sculpted throughout the years,
Into nothing more than an image,
Which we've all learned to fear.

This illusion sends boys into darkness,
Turns girls into shadows,
Of which escape seems improbable.
The feeling of imperfection loiters on their minds.

The abyss of inadequacy,
Sighs words of belittlement,
And howls insults at the vulnerable,
Until the light in their eyes splutters out.

But there is light and hope.
For there are twice as many inspirational thoughts,
Then there are hostile interjections,
Come on darling, you can make it.
