Poem -

country dreams

Outside my window
I hear rain pouring
Still four for hours
Till the morning
cast aside my city life
And the coming busy day
Stretch my ears till my heart
Hear what It's got to say...

I see my dirty blonde hair in a loose braid
With a whistle on my lips
dressed casually, on the countryside
with a pony a bit higher than my hips
slide onto his saddle and we ride
Till his hooves  are flying
I cluck Giddy-up with the soft whoosh
Of the wind that's gently sighing
Whipping thru the greenery
with grace and 19 year old ease
Past pastures filled with grazing cows
with tall but arching trees
We stop to inhale
The earths rich scent
With sounds of hummingbirds singing
to their hearts content
Pony neighs
I stroke his hair
Lightheaded with freedom
without a care
Get my smooth hands dirty
Deep in the ground
Watch deer for an hour
without breathing a sound
Run thru freshly cut grass
The breeze caressing my cheek
Watch a tiny bud break thru the earth
And take its first curious peek

When suddenly I'm forced to snap
Out of my dreamy spell
alarm clock rings- morning's here
with the tinkle of a harness bell
My spirits still horseback riding
as I get ready for the day
and from somewhere in the distance
I can hear my pony neigh
