Crawl to Run
Crawling so slowly on the pavement with every detail so clear
Every speck and imperfection magnified as I inch across the surface
Cracks in time echo as the day breaks across the horizon
With it, the mistakes of yesterday’s past are illuminated
Roots pulled upwards, like memories so deeply set in my psyche
But to pull is not enough, and the roots dig into the soil once again
Walking fast-paced forward, but it seems like the pavement is moving with me
Going nowhere with each step, landing again in the same place as before
Dense fog collects in the air clouding everything I see and feel
Even when it clears, the haze’s presence remains etched in my mind
A melancholy tidal wave so forceful it traces itself in its wake
Only to crash ashore, spraying its disdain on everything within reach
Running now, the pavement takes to moving in reverse: carrying me with it
My feet no longer touch the ground but circle in air, aching for the ground below
Claws scratch at the surface of my consciousness
Trying to scrape from it the numbness that curses through my nerves
A life so delicately forged in glass but is yet so unbreakable
But as unbreakable as it was, it infinitely shattered in one drop
Sprinting away from past, the pavement halts and time stops altogether
Paused is time and earth, but I’m still running
