Crocodile Smiles

Crocodile Smiles

I should have sensed it right away, by the tautness of your lips;

The smile of the dangerous crocodile, through hearts can easily rip!

I was blinded by your camouflage, a facade that lured me in;

Your outer self so lovely shined, but only evil was within!

In the beginning it went so smoothly, you brought me flowers, opened doors;

How could I have ever guessed, to you, I was just your whore?

After a while came some subtle signs, your temper gently flared;

Yet I blamed it all upon myself, for you I truly cared!

But one night the tides changed quickly, you screamed and slapped my face;

All because when we were out in public, I balked at your lewd embrace!

Yet I thank you now for doing it, the sting brought me to reality;

That the man I thought I’d found for life, you could never be!

For the moment a man puts his hands on a woman, she needs to him exile;

Accept no pleas for her forgiveness, potential death in his crocodile smile!

Cry some tears for what could have been, and toss him immediately;

Your soulmate is out there looking for you, this monster was not meant to be!

Thousands of women are killed each year by abusive men.  Too many allow the abuse to go on, until it is too late.  If only at the first sign of it, they would find the strength to walk away, many would still be here with us today.

“About 4,000 women die each year due to domestic violence. Of the total domestic violence homicides, about 75% of the victims were killed as they attempted to leave the relationship or after the relationship had ended. Seventy-three percent of male abusers were abused as children.”

Great poem , shining light on domestic violence. A subject which is often brushed under the carpet. Their are too many people in abusive relationships, a subject that needs addressed.

Loved this

My Dear Lorna,

We need to turn the carpet over, and bring these atrocities to light.  I'm forming a team dedicated to the education and forewarning of innocent young women, that could fall prey to these monsters.  I would love to have you on board.

Hugs, Peace and Love,

My Dear Brother Tony,

Never enough words to encompass the tragedies of abused women.  Today, I form a team of poets on Cosmo, dedicated to the education of potentially abused women.  I would love to have you at my side, helping in their forewarning.  "All Aboard!!"

My Dear Brother Poet Jai,

I never realized that domestic violence was so prevalent in Australia.  Maybe the "good" men of your country, if they are aware of it happening, should form a band of vigilantes, catch the perpetrator, and try him in a "Kangaroo Court".  Then serve justice quickly, and break his legs on the first offense, and warn him that with a second, it will be his neck.  Wouldn't that be great?

Thank you for your strong words.

Peace and Love,

Larry, my dear friend...

As a man of deep feeling and commitment to the higher ideals of humanity, you invariably pour your heart into everything you write. But this passionate, sustained and heartfelt poem is possibly the strongest piece of writing you've ever posted here on Cosmo (I may be wrong in saying that, I've yet to read ALL of your work).

A few days ago; in a comment on another piece: I called you "our guardian". Poems such as this one prove my point...if such proof were really needed.

It is also one of the many reasons I remain...

your friend & fan,

J ;)

My Dear Friend Jason,

When someone speaks the words, you just have to me, I am left speechless.  I can only say thank you, from the bottom of my heart.  I try to remain humble, and these causes I believe in, to me, are self evident.  As you call me a "guardian", I now call you an Angel, who is always watching over me.

My Dear Greg,

Thank you so much for your lovely words.  You are so right, it is very sad what happens to some women in the world today.  If they fall into the grasp of the wrong man, their lives can be ruined forever.  We must make people more aware.

We Love You, too,

It sad that the same men who claimed to love these women would hurt them badly...Was it really love in the first place? A man who loves a woman should make her live longer and not cut her life short...

Love you

My Dear Sweet Rose,

To some men, "Love" is just another four letter word, that comes from their mouths, and not their hearts.  We can only hope that these precious women discover their lies early enough to get out in time.

Love you too,

Hi  Larry I  totally relate to you poem sadly.
I have terrible memories of a monster i was with
for five years, it is so hard to get away from these
men who suck the life from you, who one minute tell you
they love you and the next they beat the living day lights out of you.
They gradually take all your self worth your self esteem until
you are only a shadow of yourself and you think in your own mind
that you have only them, I never thought I would be sucked in
but i was, and i suffered for it, the best day of my life
was when i managed to escape that bully
but i will never forget the nightmare i lived .
My respect to my friend for your write
bring domestic violence to the forefront of people`s minds
Great write!
Love n hugs Debs xox

My Dear Debs,

Linda and I are so glad that you ended up being one of the lucky ones, able to end the brutal relationship with no ramifications.  Too many women do not share the same fate as you, and end up in body bags.  We know it made you a stronger woman, but what a terrible price to have to pay.  I search my mind for ways to make women aware of the atrocities that could await them.  That is why in my poem, I implored them that with the first abuse, to make it the last, and distance themselves far away from these monsters.  Yet oft times, these pleas go unheralded as they accept his false apologies, and get sucked right back in to the vortex of doom.  Thank you for powerful words.

Hugs, Peace and Love,

Larry xxx
