The Cross

The Cross

A painted picture on the wall

Tells a story to us all

An ancient tale

A time of old

A wondrous story

To be told

The story of a Virgin child

Delivering a son

A gift of life from the lord

So that his will be done

Jesus was the child

Born from God above

To spread his gospel to the world

With tenderness and love

The faithful son gave sermons

Ignoring Scorns and hate

Making sure God’s word was heard

Before he met his fate

Disbelievers tried to silence him

Nailed him to a cross

But even through the pain of death

God’s word could not be lost

Apostles carry on his work

In churches everywhere

Honouring Jesus Christ our lord

And the Cross he had to bare
