Curveballs
It hurts just a little
It stings all the more
What strange oddities
Life has in store
I wasn't honest with you
I kept it all hidden
Like the submissive idiot
I became the hungry kitten
That meowed for attention
Though it wasn't mine to hold
Now my heart lies fractured
For getting too bold
I sought that which should not be so
I sought solace in an empty space
Where I wanted you to be
Where I could speak face to face
Then I saw you today
And Inside I cried
I've done it again
Another piece of me dies
Though I'll not sit here
Lamenting my fate
I am my own governor of fortune
With the key to my own gate
I can control my future
Though I cannot control my heart
What I wanted was not deserved
A beginning with no start
And so I will remove myself
And not live by my own chain
I shall remove the noose
Walk back through my gate
Which I shall gently close behind me
To lock away my truth
And those days when I was frankly
A little bit in love with you.
