CUSTARD'S LAST STAND

From school days I can still recall the taste
Gooy and sticky certainly too good to waste
Mum made it the best for a weekly treat
Guaranteed to make any pudding complete

What I still wonder how it gets to be so yellow
Send your answers please to this likeable fellow
Can be served cold of course but I prefer it hot
With apple pie or treacle tart sure hits the spot

I wonder one day if it will be sacred and holy
Not served anymore with delicious jam roly poly
Custard's last stand may well happen in my life
Hope that doesn't for it will cause aggro and strife
