Dear Mother Nature
An apology

Dear Mother Nature
My hat goes off to youÂ
What you did was so kind
The things you didn’t have to doÂ
You grew, grew and grew
Then grew a little moreÂ
Blessed us with land and waterÂ
Made sure that this was pureÂ
Gave us fruit and vegetables
From the ground, from the treesÂ
And how lucky we are to have hands that are made perfectly to harvest all of theseÂ
It’s funny how it’s come to planÂ
This creation of yoursÂ
It’s such a shame that humankind are rotten to the coreÂ
You must feel so deflated, all the blames on youÂ
When we’re the ones doing the things you advised us not to doÂ
You didn’t make factories, money or greedÂ
We decided to make these things, you planted the seedÂ
You gave us feet to feel the sand between our toesÂ
Lavender smells beautiful, so you gave us a noseÂ
I’m grateful we have eyes so we can see the northern lightsÂ
The sunset is phenomenal, you granted us sightÂ
We couldn’t hear the birds sing if we didn’t have earsÂ
You gave us emotions and let us laugh ourselves to tearsÂ
We’ve discovered world foods, we can feel the taste on our tonguesÂ
Gave us clean air to breathe, like a song to our lungsÂ
We made the cars, the pollution and oilsÂ
We made the machines that exhaust our soilsÂ
We built the tower blocks and created segregationÂ
We separated the rich from the poor and divided every nationÂ
We decided that what you’ve got is more important than who you areÂ
You didn’t know this was gonna happen whilst you were busy making starsÂ
We will tax those too, the day will surely comeÂ
We will tax the moon, the sky and sunÂ
You gave us the rain to nurture our earthÂ
We destroyed the planet to which you gave birthÂ
80% of land is used for cattle and cropsÂ
Yet the processed, packaged take over our shopsÂ
Nature always takes over, the question is whenÂ
Mother Nature is ready to start over againÂ
From log cabin to White House says William Roscoe ThayerÂ
Humanitarian, number one slayerÂ
We started to govern the people, dampen the joyÂ
No longer do we play outside, an iPhone is a toyÂ
Technology has become a pacifier, to every girl and boyÂ
The children aren’t building tree houses, mixing up mud piesÂ
They sit in front of BBC news, would you like some salt with these lies
We know what to do and where to go from hereÂ
But we talk about it in the pub, binge depression fuelling beerÂ
We should be out there with you, putting these things rightÂ
Mother Nature, we are just too scared to put up this needed fightÂ
