Dear Mother Nature

An apology

Dear Mother Nature

Dear Mother Nature
My hat goes off to you
What you did was so kind
The things you didn’t have to do
You grew, grew and grew
Then grew a little more
Blessed us with land and water
Made sure that this was pure
Gave us fruit and vegetables
From the ground, from the trees
And how lucky we are to have hands that are made perfectly to harvest all of these
It’s funny how it’s come to plan
This creation of yours
It’s such a shame that humankind are rotten to the core
You must feel so deflated, all the blames on you
When we’re the ones doing the things you advised us not to do
You didn’t make factories, money or greed
We decided to make these things, you planted the seed
You gave us feet to feel the sand between our toes
Lavender smells beautiful, so you gave us a nose
I’m grateful we have eyes so we can see the northern lights
The sunset is phenomenal, you granted us sight
We couldn’t hear the birds sing if we didn’t have ears
You gave us emotions and let us laugh ourselves to tears
We’ve discovered world foods, we can feel the taste on our tongues
Gave us clean air to breathe, like a song to our lungs
We made the cars, the pollution and oils
We made the machines that exhaust our soils
We built the tower blocks and created segregation
We separated the rich from the poor and divided every nation
We decided that what you’ve got is more important than who you are
You didn’t know this was gonna happen whilst you were busy making stars
We will tax those too, the day will surely come
We will tax the moon, the sky and sun
You gave us the rain to nurture our earth
We destroyed the planet to which you gave birth
80% of land is used for cattle and crops
Yet the processed, packaged take over our shops
Nature always takes over, the question is when
Mother Nature is ready to start over again
From log cabin to White House says William Roscoe Thayer
Humanitarian, number one slayer
We started to govern the people, dampen the joy
No longer do we play outside, an iPhone is a toy
Technology has become a pacifier, to every girl and boy
The children aren’t building tree houses, mixing up mud pies
They sit in front of BBC news, would you like some salt with these lies
We know what to do and where to go from here
But we talk about it in the pub, binge depression fuelling beer
We should be out there with you, putting these things right
Mother Nature, we are just too scared to put up this needed fight
