Death's Fare

He woke up in the night
Something had given him quite a fright
Drew the bed sheet to his chin
Shivers coming from within

All alone in a big white room
And suddenly out of the gloom
Came a figure dressed in white
But it simply turned on the light

Came over to his bed
Checked his pulse then his head
And said:

You called out in your sleep
I worried I put you under too deep
Good thing I came too
It was almost too much for you

Least now I know this has failed
I won't let what's inside you prevail
Tomorrow again we'll try
It's not yet time to say goodbye

Until then take care
Death will not be claiming his fare.
