Deja Vue

Deja Vue

With fingers of familial love
I touch your sepia face
A distant smile still frozen in time
How well I feel I know this place

Those eyes once piercing blue
now gazingĀ  through infinity
no recognition lingers there
you’re looking at but don’t see me.

Who knows your thoughts or how you feel?
Emotions don’t betray.
Like death a stillness cloaks your form
preserving life without decay

Your silvered head so stiffly styled,
Coquettish angle to your chin.
A waspy waist, encased in bone,
your armour letting no one in

And yet I feel I know you well.
Your blood does course in mine.
Great grandma nestled in my hand
held safe now for all time.

Being Me

Oh I love this! Photos always amaze me...they really do freeze a moment in time and how they bring that moment flooding back! In this case you are looking at a person you never knew and yet is a part of you and that is a whole new emotion to experience which this poem captures well. Love it ⚘x

Thank you so much! I am always fascinated by images from our past and I am old enough to rememberĀ  as a child when old black and white film ran at a fast pace and being so amazed when they could slow it down and people from a past age looked and walked 'just like me'! It brought them to life and one could relate to them . So pleasedĀ  you enjoyed it. Lodigiana x

Lodigiana you really know how to write and display true empathy finely woven around the human touch.
And so emotionally andĀ  touchingly so after reading your gentle and heartfelt homage to said family member.
Captured memoriesĀ  through treasured sepia photographs keep that person's spirit alive at any point in one's life.
Each a magical time machine to revisit repeatedly and draw whatever strength of love from.
Great writing and more than humbling to view.
I wish you well my poetic friend and stay safe.
Shaun.x.
